3 interesting facts about CBD

Although each time we know more of the CBD, and its use has been extending rapidly in many countries, there are some doubts that still remain about this product.

In the lines that follow we will comment on some interesting facts about CBD referring to its origin, its potential effects on the body and the different ways in which it can be consumed.

1.ABOUT ITS ORIGIN

CBD -short for cannabidiol- is one of the more than 110 compounds known as cannabinoids that are extracted from the cannabis plant. Despite the fact that many people believe that cannabis and marijuana are the same thing, the truth is that cannabis is a plant with different varieties in which different cannabinoids predominate, depending on the genetic line in question.

CBDis extracted from a variety known as hemp, the genetic line that has been developed industrially, since due to its low content of compounds with psychoactive effects it can be legally marketed.

2.THE CBD, UNLIKE THE THC, HAS NO PSYCHOACTIVE OR SEDATIVES EFFECTS

CBD and THC are two of the best known cannabinoids which are extracted from cannabis, however, while the CBD does not have properties capable of generating mental alterations, THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is the main psychoactive ingredient -the most researched and known- of the variety of the plant that is known as marijuana.

THC interacts with receptors of nerve cells of the brain, and as a consequence of this interaction dopamine is released, producing effects on mental activity that begins to be activated in the brain between 10 and 30 minutes after it is ingested and can last about 2 hours.

For its part, CBD is a compound totally contrary to THC, which rather neutralizes its action in the organism; some researchers even claim that it also helps control the damage that THC could do to the brain and the human body. CBD is known to produce opposite patterns of activity to THC in various regions of the brain including the striatum, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex, and may help control anxiety states.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed the results of the most current research regarding the absence of psychoactive effects in the CBD.

3.VARIOUS WAYS TO CONSUME CBD

The boom of research on cannabinoids has generated many innovations that are expressed in numerous products made with cannabidiol.

Due to the wide range of favorable effects that CBD has on the body, and the fact that it produces very few or none unfavorable effects, it is considered the most powerful, natural and healthy health supplement on the market, therefore many people use it to achieve a better quality of life and a healthy and balanced body.

In general terms, it is used as a food supplement and is mainly marketed in liquid form (oils, tinctures), chewable or as a cream. It is possible to find it in topical products such as balms, sprays and enriched soaps, which are used to treat localized symptoms such as pain and inflammation, caused by various disorders, and even to relieve skin irritations. The oils can be consumed in the form of drops that are placed under the tongue or aspirated in vaporizers.

Lately some companies have become interested in developing transdermal patches with CBD and other cannabinoids.
