Problems with insomnia? Try CBD

Good sleep is essential to maintain a healthy body and mind. However, the type of life we usually lead today makes it increasingly difficult to enjoy deep and restful sleep, to the point that approximately 40% of the world's population suffers from some form of insomnia, although it occurs with more frequency in women and older adults.

Restful sleep involves not only sleeping a certain amount of hours, but also the quality of sleep you have. Both conditions are essential to feel rested and energetic the next day and, in general, to function properly and be productive in the activities we perform.

What causes insomnia and how it is commonly treated?

Although the most common causes of insomnia are stress and anxiety, it can sometimes be due to hyperactive nervous activity, hormonal imbalances, cardiovascular disease, and a number of other reasons.

The various causes that induce sleep disturbances make it a complex problem and sometimes difficult to diagnose, although sometimes to solve this problem, it would be enough to introduce changes in some of our lifestyle habits, for example, doing physical exercise and maintaining a healthy diet.

However, when the problem persists and becomes chronic, it is essential to pay attention to it, because it can produce varied and multiple imbalances in the body, which may imply that pharmacological treatments based on hypnotics, anxiolytics and similars, which should be avoided because they commonly produce dependency and generate other adverse health effects.

CBD to treat insomnia

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is one of the more than 100 substances derived from the cannabis plant. This cannabinoid, known for its numerous favorable effects on health and its null psychoactivity,[1] interacts with the endocannabinoid system of our body ―in charge of keeping the body in balance―, stimulating in the bloodstream the production and release of some hormones that play an important role in reducing stress and anxious states, two of the most common causes of sleep disorders.

Interesting recent researches shows that CBD naturally and safely helps to regulate imbalances in the sleep-wake cycle of people suffering from insomnia or other sleep disorders. This means that during the day it activates us, which is favorable for those who feel drowsy during the day as a result of alterations in the sleep pattern, and when night comes, it helps us relax in order to be able to sleep.

CBD is not a sleep medicine

Cannabidiol is not a sedative that helps sleep, nor does it directly induce sleep, but, contrary to what happens with hypnotics and other sleep remedies, available in pharmacies with or without a prescription, it does not create addiction or produce secondary effects.

A few drops of CBD oil can help us to naturally regulate sleep disorders and get back to sleeping better without running the risk of becoming addicted to drugs or suffering its, generally dangerous, side effects.
